Play Every Day

I took these photos when I was visiting a small town in France, called Beynac. It's located in the Dordogne region and overlooks the beautiful Dordogne River. I was there exploring the small village that also sits beneath a castle high up top a steep cliff which was built in the 12th century. Apparently the castle is one of the best preserved in it's region, and the views from the castle looking down upon the river are absolutely breathtaking. The fountain in the picture sits along a narrow cobbled road in the old village across from a cafe where I was sitting and enjoying my morning coffee and croissant. I was enjoying the warm summer morning as I looked across the path and noticed this little girl completely intrigued with the water fountain. She stopped and played for at least a good ten minutes, discovering everything she could about it. Then when she was finished, she skipped along merrily and followed her family up the path. My take away from this wasn't anything deeply profound, or insightful, but just a sweet and simple reminder to take a moment and make sure to play every day.

As inspiring as you are-I have always felt the need/desire to put a little humor/entertainment in my everyday life.
"Play every day and possibly at night, also"
In the pic if she wasn't wearing a bonnet, not a 3ft girl and not in France-It could have been me.

What adorable pics & great advice! Taking time to play every day with my son helps keep me sane in this crazy world! Sad that we forget about the glory of play as adults.

Popped over from SITS.

Playing every day is good advice. My cats follow this advice and are very happy little creatures! Sometimes even I will start skipping and it just makes me feel a bit more lighthearted. I even skip down the hallways at work some days--usually early before too many get there. "A merry heart doth good like a medicine."

Congrats on your SITS day!

Don't children make your heart sing. They just enjoy. This morning I saw a Dad and is two children at Tim Horton's and the little one was in her PJs (with feet, my favourite) playing and enjoying. If you are in France again, you must go to Mont St. Michel. Breathtaking.

Happy SITS day.

Here from SITS. I recently wrote and performed a skit on "The Evolution of Play" that talks about just this thing: we need to play more. Beautiful pics.

What a wonderful little peek you got into her world!! We all should play more often, you are so right!

The thing that struck me, though, is in a detail you mentioned just at the end. She was given free reign to play at the fountain until she was satisfied, and THEN follow her family up the street. There were no parents nagging her to keep moving, no sense of needing to hurry along...

this is the type of parent I strive to be...one who allows my child to explore life to her satisfaction.

Great pictures, first of all. Second of all... that is excellent advice. So often do we all forget to take the time out of our busy days to stop and enjoy what life throws our way. Stop and play!! I love it!
